Upcoming Chesapeake Region EventsSpring 2022 Chesapeake Region plate meet8th Annual ALPCA Chesapeake Region Spring Meet
Same location as May 2021! Not knowing what the COVID situation might be so far in advance, we decided to again play it safe, and hold this meet outdoors in an open-air pavilion. This venue worked well for us in 2021, so we're going back. This meet will be held rain or shine, but the pavilion is huge and everyone who wants a table under the pavilion should be able to get one. Mechanicsville is located just northeast of Richmond, not far off of Interstate 295. In accordance with our bylaws, we hold elections during the first meet of even-numbered years for the region president and four directors. Since we did not have a meet in 2020, per the bylaws (Article IV, Section 3), the incumbents remained in office until such time that elections could be held in May 2021. However, we will again hold elections at this meet in order to get back on schedule. This event is not open to the general public. Summer 2022 Chesapeake Region plate meet12th Annual ALPCA Chesapeake Region Summer Meet
Back at our usual location this year! We will be back in the gymnasium at the St. Michael Catholic Church in Mount Airy, where all of our summer meets were held from 2010 to 2019. This is an air-conditioned facility with about 57 8-foot tables available. Of course, everything about this meet is subject to change if there's a COVID spike. Mount Airy is between Baltimore and Frederick, just off of Interstate 70. We're still working out the details for this meet. Check back here later for more specific information. This event is not open to the general public. Future Chesapeake Region meetsWe haven't yet made any specific arrangements for plate meets beyond August 2022, but we're working on it. We do plan to continue to hold a meet in central or southern Virginia each spring and a meet in Maryland each August. We would also very much like to hold additional meets in other locations within our territory, such as in Delaware, or along the I-81 corridor in western Virginia. To do this, we need to find suitable venues and people willing to help plan and host meets in these locations. If you know of an inexpensive meet hall (maximum $500 to rent for 8 hours) that has at least 40 8-foot tables (or can accommodate 300 people seated banquet-style), level access, and adequate parking, located anywhere in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, or Washington, D.C., we'd very much like to hear the details. Tell us about it! Be sure to check back here periodically for the lastest information on upcoming Chesapeake Region plate meets! Upcoming ALPCA conventions
ALPCA conventions are held annually every June or July in various locations around the United States. The ALPCA convention is the mother of all plate meets, with many hundreds of collectors in attendance, and probably millions of plates being displayed, traded, and sold. Below are the locations and dates for the next few years. Check the ALPCA web site for more details.
Other plate collecting eventsFor many years now, there's been a "Spring Thaw" plate meet in Annandale, Va., outside of Washington, D.C., in early March. (This meet, though hosted by two ALPCA members, is an independent plate meet not affiliated with ALPCA or the ALPCA Chesapeake Region.) As far as we know, the Annandale meet is going to continue to happen each year. Check the following links for info on the Annandale meet, as well as other plate meets and plate-related events througout North America.
